My time so far at UWCSEA has been...
AMAZING! Dear National Comittee, friends, family,... I've arrived almost 2 weeks ago and I can't believe what a wonderful time I've already had here. I've just finished my second
day of school and I'm sitting at my desk in the 'study room', but as I don't have much homework to do, this seems the perfect time to let you know what I've been up to. Thanks for reading
this !
Arrival
I've arrived in Singapore on the 3rd of August, but I have only been on campus since last Monday. I have spent the 1st weekend with a host family who showed me around in Singapore. So last week Monday was actually the first day of what is called, 'orientation week' and my actual first day of school was yesterday so I already had the chance to discover Singapore, the (huge) campus and the people before school started. Above and underneath you can see some pictures of when I arrived.
My host family
Meet 'the Powers', my host family in Singapore. They've travelled a lot and lived in many countries, but now they're based in Singapore (for about 4 years now).
They were amazing and made me feel home from the first day.
Discovering Singapore
With my host family and during 'orientation week' I had the chance to discover Singapore and it is beautiful. It's so modern and impressive and however it's a small country (yes, even smaller than Belgium) it has so many things to do. From huge skyscrapers in the central business district with fancy restaurants to old temples in the heart of Chinatown with a lot of locals and local food. You can find everything here. Even the southernmost point of continental Asia ;)!
Orientation week
So orientation week is over and that means school is starting. Unfortunately, because orientation week was fun (besides the (boring) formal presentations)! It was more like a summer camp and it was nice to get to know the school, but most importantly the people who you are going to be living with for the next 2 years.
First week of school
So, as mentioned before, my first week of school has started yesterday. I wasn't really nervous or something, but more curious to see what was coming. We didn't really have any lessons, they were more just introduction classes and I only have 3 classes on Monday, so I didn't really learn anything (yet) but the teachers and the other students seemed nice!
I went to the Immigration department for my students pass today, so I had no classes again. However, I (for some reason) do have homework already... IB is serious and they will make sure you're aware of that. I guess I'm just gonna try and make the best out of it. Interested in my timetable? Click here.
This was it! I'm doing well and I'm having a good time. Thank you for all the support and help in Belgium or here in Singapore. I hope you enjoyed this little update!
