I will write a little bit about the first four days - it's so unreal that I'm actually already since 4 days here at Robert Bosch College that I had to count the days with my fingers :).
Well, on Friday -Arrival Day- my parents drove me through the great Black Forest to the campus in Freiburg in the very south west of Germany. Second-years greeted me very friendly and showed me where my room is in which I'm just sitting at the desk writing this. I'm actually in the smallest House - I think, but that's not bad at all; we still have enough place for all the stuff, so do not worry about that...
After getting my luggage into my room which I'm sharing with three other nice girls I said goodbye to my parents and my little sister and yes there have been tears, but I have been quite excited about being at this place at the same time.
During the whole day arrived other students who we welcomed and helped to find their houses and rooms while getting to know all the people who will from now on be a very big part of our daily life.
The most common questions during these days are "what's your name?" and "where are you from?" because it's for most of us to difficult to remember all the 200 new faces and names at once.
On the first day we met our house tutor who explained a few rules to us to follow and how to separate the waste which was quite surprising to me because it's so obviously in Germany - my home country -, but after seeing it I realized that it's not obviously at all...so it's great that they learn now how to separate garbage which is really important I think.
Then I left the house and met my Personal Tutor group which met at the Tutors house which looks pretty amazing with the apple trees, the creek which flows during the garden and the ivy which covers the house. She baked a cake for us and offerred us tea while introducing us to some other rules and to the tasks which a Personal Tutor has and why he exists.
Introducing is quite a key word these days as we already had many Introductions...during the last days we had an Introduction to staff, to sustainability which was great because everybody translated literally what the word means in their languages so we found out that it means to keep things that they can go on forever (I hope that's the right defintion :)) ) and to the Garden which also means that the shepherd of the college showed us the sheep and other wildlife in the forest at the campus.
Moreover we made apple juice out of our own apples that tastes really intense, met the psycologist to get to know her and began to build an insect house - in between my shoulder still hurts from drilling all these holes into the wood.
On Saturday (August, 25th) there was UWC Café which means that everyone who wants can show his talents in singing, dancing, making music and comedy in the auditorium of RBC which was so much fun because sometimes also the audience had to partcipate and the teachers joined the performers and of course because the acts were so good!
Well, I could write more and more about all the stuff we already did, but I will stop here so just ask me about my Instagram or about the contact if you have more questions about the beginning of Orientation week which will last until next Friday (August, 31st). I met so many friendly people that are all so open-minded what really impressed me, but sometimes it's really a bit too much, so I have to have silence around me like now.
Have a nice day!
